The fundamental purpose of the Customer Strong Authentication - CSA - is to provide to the users of digital channels with a solution that, regardless of the protection existing in their computers, (antivirus software, firewalls, antispyware, etc.), ensures that they carry out transactions in a safe manner.
The second payment Services Directive (PSD2) is a directive from the European Union, transposed into the Portuguese law by means of Decree-Law 91/2018, whose main objective is to turn your online bank transactions increasingly safer.
When logging and when authorizing operations, the CSA may be applied, being requested, at least, 2 of 3 elements, to verify the user's identity:
Something I know
(User's Code, Multichannel Code, Password or PIN of the bank card)
Something I have
(mobile phone or Token and bank card with chip)
Something I am
(finger, facial print)
These data must be independent, meaning that in case one of them is violated, this violation should not compromise the reliability of the remaining data.
The CSA is used in the access and confirmation of some transactions by entering an Authorization Code (disposable code generated based on the data of the transaction and sent by SMS into the Customer's mobile phone, or obtained through a Token, together with a bank card).
The use of this security system is extremely simple because the Authorization Code may be sent to a mobile phone, a device which is indispensable these days.
