Millennium Gallery opens at the MNAC – National Contemporary Art Museum

The Millennium bcp Gallery opened its doors to art, to the artists and to the public, in the Chiado, at the National Contemporary Art Museum (MNAC).

The public and private sectors joined together for culture to make this original project possible, in which a National Museum welcomes a private gallery within its walls. The new gallery will showcase Millennium bcp’s painting collection and as well as the Museum's collection, enabling the public to enjoy a broader program of exhibitions in a single space.

The project was born of a protocol between Millennium bcp, the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, the Ministry of Culture and the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon to give a wing of the MNAC building. This wing had been closed and was fully restored by Millennium, creating another  viable art space, where the Millennium bcp Foundation returns to the Shared Art program, with exhibitions with various themes and also the sharing of works from the Millennium Collection.

There are 61 pieces, including installations, paintings, drawings, prints, collages, photographs, videos, sound compositions, which explore the cognitive systems of the human brain in relation to art and the dialogue between the artistic work and its viewer. This exhibition will also have a publication, with unpublished research texts by the curator and neuroscientist Semir Zeki.
