Millennium bcp named one of "Europe's Climate Leaders 2021" by the Financial Times and Statista

Millennium bcp has been named of "Europe's climate leaders in 2021" in a new ranking by the Financial Times. This distinction was developed by the leading international financial newspaper and by Statista - a German company specializing in market and consumer research - which highlights the European companies that have made the most progress in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

"Millennium bcp is dedicated to the fight against global warming and we are part of the National Strategy for Sustainable Financing. The bank is committed to acting to promote sustainable, socially inclusive and environmentally responsible development in all the countries where it operates,” Miguel Maya, CEO of Millennium bcp, said. "The priority in dealing with and mitigating the effects of a pandemic cannot diminish the importance or the urgency in confronting and reducing the impact of climate change."

At the national level, in 2020 Millennium bcp reduced its GHG emissions by 34.9% compared to the same period in 2019, with a particular focus on direct emissions (-41.3%). In the last edition of the "Carbon Disclosure Project," Millennium bcp obtained the classification "A-" and entered the “Leadership” performance band, thus joining the group of 35% of companies with the best classification worldwide in terms of GHG emissions.

A total of 300 companies were selected as Climate Leaders for the independent ranking of the Financial Times, out of a universe of 4,000 companies committed to significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The FT and Statista ranking is the result of months of intensive research, where the entities examined the existing emissions data and contacted tens of thousands of companies. After this careful analysis, they identified the companies that demonstrated excellence, and which clearly stood out, in reducing their main GHG emissions.
