The actions developed by Millennium bcp with the communities, under the social responsibility programmes, are vast and cover areas such as education, culture, charity work, solidarity and community activities, some of which are part of volunteer programmes.

Fundação Millennium bcp

Millennium bcp Foundation, in line with the principles of sustainable development underlying its patronage action and the policy of Social Responsibility of Millennium bcp, supports several initiatives of impact in terms of economic, social and cultural sustainability.

In order to orient the support to a real long-term increase of effectiveness, the selection of each project and entity to support must observe several criteria, such as the ability of the entities to implement the projects, the specific competence in the area of intervention, self-sustainability, the cost-benefit relation of the initiative, the project's impact on the community and the degree of affinity of values with Millennium bcp brand, favouring also initiatives with high number of participants and promoted by solid institutions with recognized merit.

Millennium bcp promotes initiatives in the areas of education and culture and creates opportunities for the participation of their Employees as volunteers in actions of social support and promotion of education.


Education

Financial Education

Planeamento Financeiro

Millennium bcp provides on its website an informative area dedicated to financial planning, which aims to serve as an interactive educational tool.

Given the growing need for raising awareness and promoting among the entire population the need to have planning and saving habits, the Bank made this information available to all users who wish to consult and not only to its customers.

Partnerships for Education Nowadays the role of corporations in supporting education at all stages of life of the population is fundamental as a promoter of the quality of individual competencies that are critical to leverage the productivity and competitiveness of the companies and of the country.With the aim of strengthening the school/company partnerships with institutions that share common goals, Millennium bcp:

  • Is corporate partner of the Community of European Management Schools (CEMS), participating in various activities that support the Master in International Management (MIM), currently recognized as the best master's degree in management after the Bologna process, in Portugal. This partnership is part of a strategic alliance of 27 business schools worldwide and 60 business partners and strengthens the connection with the academic world, contributing to enhance the academic experiences arising from an exposure of students to the best business practices.
  • Established a partnership with the Institute for Economic, Fiscal and Tax Law (IDEFF) of the Faculty of law of Lisbon, within the framework of the postgraduate degrees in financial markets, competition and regulation law, tax law, partnerships on a central and local government level and in advanced tax law, in which, among other collaborations, some Employees of the Bank lecture the compliance and tax subjects.

Culture

The preservation of the cultural heritage owned by Millennium bcp, notably works of art, furniture and textiles, has been a constant concern. The dissemination of this estate, either via own exhibitions or by temporary concessions of pieces to the museums or to national and international exhibitions allows Millennium bcp to share with different audiences a heritage that is more valuable when shared.

Volunteering

Millennium bcp has sought to create opportunities for it's Employees to participate as volunteers in various actions in the community, sharing experience and knowledge.

Partnership with Junior Achievement
As a founding member of "Aprender a Empreender - Associação de jovens empreendedores de Portugal" a Portuguese association for young entrepreneurs Millennium bcp began the collaboration in the implementation of programmes in 2006, with the participation of 12 volunteer Employees that during six weeks taught the program "Economics for success" to 9th grade students.

Programme 2010

In 2010 the collaboration includes about 100 Employees, who gave approximately 700 hours of their time to participate in various programs for students in basic education: "The family", "The community" and "Economics for success". Under the unique support to the Graduate Programme, aimed at young university students, Millennium bcp provides tutors who support teams in developing their projects. In 2010, 24 Employees were involved in a total of about 500 hours of volunteer work.

Programme 2011

In 2011 Millennium bcp was distinguished with the voluntary work of the year award in the University category and participant award of the year. During the academic year of 2010/2011, this partnership was expanded to the Autonomous Region of Madeira and participated for the first time in the "Banks in Action" and "Innovation Challenge" programmes. Over this period, 161 volunteers from Millennium bcp, in 286 hours of voluntary work, helped young people to assume the entrepreneurial spirit as an attitude for life through the following Programmes: "The Family" (1st year), "The Community" (2nd year), "Economy for Success" (9th year), "Banks in Action" (10th year), "Innovation Challenge" (10th and 11th years), "The Company" (12th year) and "Graduate Programme" (University students). This participation represented an increase of 23% in the number of volunteers enrolled, with Millennium bcp having been the second company contributing with the highest number of volunteers.

Programme 2012

During the 2011/2012 academic year, 114 Millennium bcp volunteers participated in the basic education programmes – The Family; The Community; Europe and Me; Is my business; Economics for success; Banks in action; The Company. The Millennium bcp Foundation continued to be the exclusive sponsor of the Start-Up Programme, intended for higher education, featured about 30 tutors from the Bank, with the support and guidance of teachers, provided a entrepreneurial training about 150 university students from various parts of the country.

Partnership with Microsoft and EPIS
Disseminate information about the security on your computer and the Internet is to promote a safe, responsible and conscious use of technology.
Millennium bcp, in partnership with Microsoft and EPIS (Entrepreneurs for Social inclusion), has promoted actions to raise awareness within the educational community, in particular children and young people, for a safer and more responsible use of internet and computer.

Programme 2010

The actions to raise awareness have been undertaken with the participation of 20 Millennium bcp Employees, who volunteered to, together with volunteers from Microsoft, boost actions in primary schools.

Programme 2011

Under the 3rd edition of the "Secure Internet Day" programme, actions were conducted in 70 schools, to raise awareness amongst children, parents and teachers on more secure and responsible use of the Internet. Approximately 9,500 people benefited from these actions, involving a total of 156 volunteers, 41 of whom were from Millennium bcp.

Programme 2012

In 2012 and for the third consecutive year, Millennium bcp joined Microsoft Portugal in yet another initiative as part of "Safe Internet Day". Employees of Microsoft and 29 Bank Employees, together, promoted awareness-raising actions at 1st to 3rd grade schools, aimed at a safer and more responsible use of the Internet and social networks.

Collaboration With SIC Esperança
Pursuant to the storm that struck the island of Madeira, Millennium bcp joined in 2010 to the initiative of SIC Esperança, of the SIC TV channel, programme "A flower for Madeira - it's worth believing" for which 100 Employees volunteered to answer phones to raise money for the reconstruction of that island.

Help in Banco Alimentar

Programme 2011

In 2011, a group of the Direct Banking Department Employees was present in one of the Lisbon warehouses for the separation of the food collected at supermarkets during the collection campaign of the Banco Alimentar. In this action, the Employees were supported by the collaboration of their families, with a total of 50 people having participated.

Programme 2012

In 2012, and once again, the Direct Banking Direction promoted and encouraged the participation of Employees and their families in two actions for a collection of foods from the Food Bank. Together in the storerooms of Lisbon, about 50 persons (in each action) participated in the separation of food collected in supermarkets.

Programme 2013

In 2013 was given continuity to the voluntary action with the participation of 70 volunteers, involving Employees and their families. Together, contributed in the storerooms of Alcântara (Lisbon), in the process of weighing, sorting and packaging of products donated within the collect campaign of food from the Food Bank.

Participate in projects to remodeling facilities

Programme 2011

During 2011, under various training programmes Employees developed activities with the community, participate in projects involving the remodelling of facilities:

  • Included in the Leadership Training, 46 Employees of the Credit Department, in two days with a total 12 working hours, remodelled 13 rooms of the home for the elderly, Lar de Santo António in the city of Santarém: painting, furniture assembly and decoration; At the closing of the Grow Together Forum, the 43 Employees of the seven project teams were involved in an action for 8 hours, aimed at the remodelling of the children's area of Casa do Povo da Freguesia Freiria (peoples' meeting house of the parish of Freiria), near Torres Vedras;
  • Integrated in the training bank of the Investment Banking Department, 43 Employees for 6 hours, remodelled the 2nd floor of Obra do Ardina with intervention in the dormitories, study and social rooms and bathroom.

Programme 2012

The strengthening of Employees involvement in initiatives beyond the scope of their daily activities has led to the launch of a different challenge to the participants in the “Young Specialist” programme and to a group of Employees of the Retail Network (of the Ourem branches). Approximately 60 Employees developed a unique and innovative project: a Social Shop. The objective of the shop, which was called “Ponto de Partilha” and is supported by a website and Facebook page, is to offer a space prepared with essential items (adult and children’s clothing, articles for the home, workshops for senior citizens) in order to meet the needs of vulnerable families in the municipality of Ourem. In partnership with Ourem City Hall, which provided the use of a former primary school in the centre of the municipality, it was possible to create a welcoming space to receive these families. Two workshops were also held, organised by Employees of Millennium bcp, dedicated to the topic of “Domestic Management”, targeting beneficiaries of Social Insertion Income and the Committee of Protection of Children and Young People of Ourem. The objective of these sessions was to guide people towards an effi cient management of the family budget and share experiences on best practices of personal fi nance management.
