The 5th national public collection: Ecopilhas collects 4 million batteries for IPO...

The 5th national public collection of batteries promoted by Ecopihas in favor of the Portuguese Institute of Oncology (IPO) allowed the collection of more than four million used batteries.

Millennium bcp has been associated to this cause, offering 400 of its branches and all Central Services buildings for the placement of collection points. These "Pilhões" allowed collecting 400,000 batteries, about 10% of the total amount achieved.

This result allowed the donation of two videoscope portable devices to IPO Lisbon and was possible with the commitment of many individuals and institutions that, when deposited cells and batteries in the "Pilhão", have contributed to the fight against cancer. The symbolic handover of the two diagnostic equipments for cancer patients, held in January, was attended by José Carlos Malato, ambassador of the 5th national public collection of used batteries, as well as officials from the IPO Lisbon and Millennium bcp.

Eurico Cordeiro, General Director of Ecopilhas, states that "it is with great pride that I witnessed the enthusiasm of citizens and businesses to contribute to the fight against cancer through the simple gesture of putting the batteries used in "Pilhão"“. The official also said that " the help of José Carlos Malato in spreading the action was critical to the dissemination of the initiative that, in addition to the contribution to the IPO , still allowed to recycle over 4 million batteries, thus avoiding deposition in nature of heavy metals - highly damaging to the environment -, as they are cadmium, lead and mercury."

The Ecopilhas had as a key partner in this initiative Millennium bcp which released its Branches, from all over the country, to publicize the initiative and for the collection of used batteries.
